For some reason the opening paragraph did not capture me immediately, I think that I was not in the mood for old prose, but as soon as the characters entered the story that was forgotten and I was swept away to hot climes and intrigue. The pace was perfect, characters alive and you could almost feel the sun and smell the sea.
